The Summer Sensational online competition – winner announced!

21.indd

We awarded the winner of The Summer Sensational online competition last week and the winner is Dave Madden from www.dublinculture.ie. Here is some feedback from Dave about his experience blogging at The Summer Sensational.

“Since I started blogging about Dublin a few months ago I’ve gotten to know Temple Bar much better. When I heard there was a new festival on – The Summer Sensational – there was no way I was going to miss it.

Fortunately for me the organisers made a real effort to encourage people to participate, and part of that effort was a competition for on-line / social media involvement in the festival. Writing about and photographing the festival over the four days was an immensely enjoyable experience: as well as enjoying the official events I found that people were in a very friendly mood and just loved to relax and chat. I think that over time the internet has become more local, more personal, more social, and blogging about the Summer Sensational really let me feel involved in the festival.

One of the best parts of the event was discovering things I’d never known about the city. The walking tour of public art was a revelation – there are so many public art works throughout Temple Bar of which I’d previously been unaware.

Thank you to everyone (especially the performers) who made The Summer Sensational possible! “

Dave was delighted with his prize which was an HTC Legend Smartphone from Meteor.

Many thanks again to all the bloggers who took part in the competition and we hope to see you all back for our next event!

Summertime – A group show created by children with autism at TBCT’s No Grants Gallery

Shirley's_Robbie_Framed

As part of The Summer Sensational Festival (July 8-11), our No Grants Gallery presents a vibrant and colourful exhibition created by children with autism.  Featuring individual and group-pieces this exhibition is centred around the theme of Summertime.

Speaking about the exhibition, NGG curator Eimear Chaomhánach said ‘Our idea for this exhibition was to celebrate the enormous creativity autistic children hold.  The exhibition was open to children and teenagers aged from 6 – 17 from various schools around Dublin.  Their work shows real imagination through art and TBCT are just thrilled to be opening the doors to this burst of colour next week’

The NGG which opened its doors in Temple Bar, Dublin’s Cultural Quarter in 2009 is a gallery space for everyone and was recently expanded to hold even more work.  Following the hugely successful Bealtaine exhibition in May which showcased work from older people, this exhibition offers a chance to see work from the other end of the spectrum.

This exhibition opens on the first day of The Summer Sensational on Thursday 8th July at 1pm and will run for the month July.

All of the art at the exhibition can be purchased, prices will be available at the opening on Thursday July 8th

No Grants Gallery is located at 12 East Essex Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 2 (opposite Meeting House Square).

The Gallery is open Monday – Friday 9am – 5.30pm and entrance is free.
