Temple Bar Cultural Trust will make every chocolate fans dreams come true this weekend with the first ever Chocolate Festival. The three day festival of tantalizingly tasty events will take place on the 25th, 26th and 27th July when you can experience and enjoy a range of free cultural events and cuisine in a celebration of chocolate!
The festival kicked off today with a Sensory Analysis and Tasting of Chocolate Workshop in the Irish Film Institute. Ivano Caprioli, Food Product Development Centre, DIT described the importance of evaluating chocolate using the human senses. This workshop was an introduction to different types of chocolates, direction as to how to taste their various properties and the practical aspect of sampling many types of high quality chocolate!
For Ivano Caprioli, everyone had his/her own way of enjoying food and drinks. However a personal tasting method does not apply if you want to achieve scientific sensory results. There are well defined procedures and protocols to perform all the various sensory tests and the aim is to achieve objective results. A personal taste test on the other hand is subjective and very different depending on the mood, the personal preferences and even the setting. When it comes to chocolate all of the above are very important!
In partnership with TBCT, the Temple Bar Food Market has launched a series of Monthly Menu highlighting the seasonal nature of the food we eat while showcasing ingredients on offer from some of the finest growers/producers in the country.
For the Head of Food Market committee, this new initiative is all about fostering the relationship between producer and the consumer bringing shoppers a unique experience that supermarkets can’t provide. If the Menu of the Month helps even a few people to eat more healthily and introduce a little excitement into their diet then it will have done its job!
The Menu is informed by seasonality, so the first step every month is to canvas the growers and producers finding out exactly what they will have in stock for the month ahead. The food market committee then compile a list of ingredients and ask traders, costumers and guest chefs to come up with some delicious menu ideas.
The menus don’t require any particular kitchen skills. You will be surprised how easy some of the dishes are. One particular customer told the Head of Food Market committee that she had cooked the entire June Menu, starter, main and dessert for five of her friends and received a round of applause as the coffee was served!
So if you love good food you should definitely try it and submit your feedback here!
Fanzini Brothers are once again performing at the Dublin Circus Festival in Temple Bar this year and they are really looking forward to it! Gather round, gather round and witness the heroes of the Irish Circus scene ramp through a burning ring of fire on miniature bicycles, juggle knives and pass fire down their trouser legs!
Would you believe their biggest thrill is the unexpected! When they perform just about anything can happen as their show is all about interacting with their audience. The most random things happen in shows and it’s all about seizing that opportunity and going with chance occurrences. That for them is where the magic lies. The Fanzini Brothers expect all sorts of reactions from the audience this year at the Dublin Circus Festival. They expect their crowd to tune in to what they are saying and doing, interact with the show and suspend disbelief just enough to let the magic happen!
They explain that for them, the uniqueness of Irish circus is the audience and their willingness to put up with the surprising weather conditions to see a street circus show and what better way to wow the outdoor audience than here on Meeting House Square and other Temple Bar public spaces. They describe a fantastic connection between the audiences and the performer as the audiences are a little wilder and have more in common with the performer than elsewhere!
Come along this July and instead of being astonished as the Fanzini Brothers perform, let’s astonish them!
