Temple Bar Cultural Trust (TBCT) Call for Bloggers!

We organise lots of cultural events during the year. If you attend a TBCT event you will discover a whole different world in the heart of Dublin’s city centre: outdoor markets, concerts, circus, street spectacle, fire artists, comedians, magicians, musicians, movies, painters, sculptors, opera, public artworks, workshops, talks and walks.

We know that more and more people find out about our events online. We strongly believe that people’s habits are changing and that we need to take a step further and engage with the blogging community. In that sense, bloggers can help us spreading the words about our events but also, getting closer to our audiences’ expectations.

If you blog, are interested in what we do and want to share it with your readers, please get in touch! You can contact me through this blog http://blog.templebar.ie; send me an e-mail at jmomboisse@templebar.ie or even call into the Temple Bar Cultural Information Centre – it’s right in the heart of Temple Bar at 12 East Essex Street.

Our 2009 Events Diary is now at the Temple Bar Cultural Information Centre! Come in and pick up your free copy or visit www.templebar.ie to find out more!

Opera Ireland – OPENING NIGHT LIVE – Free live broadcast on Meeting House Square this February

Presented by Opera Ireland and sponsored by BMW
in association with, Dublin City Council and Temple Bar Cultural Trust
February 28, 8pm | Meeting House Square & Smithfield

On Saturday 28th February, the Opera Ireland season will open with a free live broadcast of its opening night performance of Mozart’s classic Don Giovanni, sponsored by BMW, live from the Gaiety Theatre into Meeting House Square in Temple Bar and to an invited audience from the local community in Smithfield. The company will also present the Irish premiere of Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece, Mazeppa as part of its Spring season of opera which runs from 28th February to 8th March.

Following the critical success of its 2008 productions of Madama Butterfly and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Opera Ireland will present its winning formula of pairing familiar operatic masterpieces (Don Giovanni by Mozart) alongside Irish premieres of lesser-known works (Mazeppa, Tchaikovsky) a co-production with Opera de Monte Carlo who will present their production in Monte Carlo in 2012.

Call for artists – Creative Writing Exhibition at NGG

No Grants Gallery (NGG) is a Temple Bar Cultural Trust initiative to support artists who do not have grants or other public funding to support their work. It is an exhibition space that allows total accessibility for artists. Our main aim is to encourage independent artists who have not received public funding and who struggle to establish themselves in the art world. We at Temple Bar Cultural Trust are here to provide a creative outlet in an environment that is as passionate about art as the artists themselves.

The Creative Writing Exhibition at NGG is a new initiative at the Gallery and will see a collaboration of all literary writers exploring poetry, lyrics and book extracts. The collection will be individually framed or mounted by the artist and hung at NGG from the 1st – 15th May. On Tuesday the 5th May, there will be a Slam session by a collaboration of performers representing the displayed pieces. The NGG Creative Writing Exhibition is open to a great range of artists so if you are interested in showing or performing please contact Carol Eakins on ngg@templebar.ie

Exhibition by Fiona Cashell from 4th – 18th February at the NGG Gallery

Fiona Cashell www.myspace.com/mellowfi has a varied background in a number of areas including graphic design, advertising and education. Her style is graphically inclined with favoritism towards a semiotic appeal using a variety of mediums and visual references.

Earlier this year she exhibited her artwork in the well known Design Festa Gallery in Harajuku Tokyo, Japan. Having recently returned from Japan after a time spent there, the artist will be showcasing new material, alongside artwork created in Japan in her new exhibition at the No Grants Gallery at the Temple Bar Cultural Information Centre. This exhibition will be simply entitled ‘explorations’. In this exhibition the artist aims to show a variety of new and old work, and of the varying difference in style that is apparent due to changing circumstances in life; socially, emotionally and artistically. The artist is not afraid to push into new conceptual and semiotic territories. New work is greatly inspired by the spontaneity, humor and simplicity of David Shrigleys recent material.

The artist also counts the lasting impression made by the uniqueness of Japanese graphics as having a major impact on her artistic sensibilities. In result; the evolution we see inevitably stems from ‘explorations’ of the self, place and outwardly influences.

Come along to the opening night on Friday 6th February!
